Opened in 1959 High Marnhams 5 English Electric 200MW Turbine units could produce enough electricity to supply a million homes. Ideally located close to both the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire coalfields High Marnham was a impressive addition to the Trent Valley chain of Power Stations. With Coal arriving by "Merry go Round" Trains to feed the massive boilers High marnham was truely a modern example of Electricity Production - Fast forward to 2002 and High marnham was Purchased along with several other Stations from TXU Energy by Powergen, Lacking modern anti-pollution controls and having sufferd from a lack of general maintenance it was decided to close the Station in 2003 with the loss of over 120 jobs.
